Pastured Young Thanksgiving Heritage Turkey - Fall 2019

Pastured Young Thanksgiving Heritage Turkey - Fall 2019

Every season comes with its own reasons to be thankful, but with these pastured Thanksgiving turkeys you have extra reasons to invite your family and friends!

Grown without soy or corn using only pasture and organic grains.  These turkeys will give you a deep satisfaction knowing they are nourishing your family with meat that is both nutrient-dense and flavorful. We even stopped feeding any wheat during the final two months of growth to make the meat gluten-friendly.

The black Spanish heritage rare breed is different from conventional breeds. They grow slower, eat twice as much, take between 28 and 32 weeks to mature, forage more, can reproduce, and fly over all our fences. They are also easy to get along with and come back when we call. This translates into a higher quality rare variety of Thanksgiving turkey that we hope will impress your guests with its flavor and texture.

Chefs and cooks agree that these birds cook more quickly than industrial birds and must be carefully prepared.  We plan to provide you with suggestions for brining, stuffing, and cooking the heritage turkeys with your delivery.

We call these young turkeys because they are less than 8 months old and therefore more tender and smaller.  Black Spanish Heritage Turkeys have average market weights of 23 lbs for males, and 14 lbs for females. Without soy or corn or wheat and extending the growing time allows us to aim for 12 to 15 lb carcass weights.

Micro Plan - 2 dozen per month (free of wheat, corn & soy) DEPOSIT

Get your flock ordered before January 1st or July 1st.

Rather than buying eggs, you buy the chickens that lay the eggs with our Real Egg Plans.  This is our strategy to provide you with medicinal brown and colored wheat-free, corn-free, soy-free organically fed pastured eggs on a grow-to-order continuous basis.

Hens grow from chicks to laying hens in 5 months,  then lay eggs productively for one year. When their productive year is complete, we process them into stew hens for you to make soups and broth.  Three hens lay one dozen each week.

The hens are also moved daily to fresh pasture during summer and housed in a coop with greenhouse run in winter.  Raw milk, apple cider vinegar, and organic minerals are their medicines and you can know exactly how fresh your eggs are because we label the cartons with the date they were laid.  Here is an article on the health benefits of eggs from pastured hens.

Notes: If you haven't tasted our eggs before, we'll give you a free dozen when we have extra.  You could select your chicken breed from our supply hatchery, if that breed will get along with the others in the flock. The continuous supply requires our reflocking every six months. Eggs are laid and delivered when the hens are between six and 17 months old (approximately January to December in Flock One, July to June in Flock Two). To exit the plan, simply let us know and the payments stop.  You can also sell your flock, otherwise your flock ownership reverts to the farm.
